Why Social Justice and Writer's Workshop?

Because the workshop model emphasizes personal growth & reflection, these two worlds - writing & social justice - work hand in hand. On a practical level the workshop model incorporates  scaffolding and differentiation into the teaching and writing process to accommodate a diverse classroom of learners. On the development of students as writers, thinkers and individuals; choice and voice are cultivated to foster engagement, growth, motivation, confidence and resilience.  Above all else these two worlds foreground asset lens instruction that values and utilizes each learner's personal experiences, knowledge, and identity.
